ERROR: A rule in this public folder prevents a message this large from being posted. [Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store – [E_FAIL(80004005)]]
Summary
The text of the error is as follows:
“A rule in this public folder prevents a message this large from being posted. [Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store – ]E_FAIL(80004005)[]”
Description
This error may be triggered by attempting to syncrhonize a message that exceeds the public folder limitation on message size. This is usually because of an attachment in a private folder that is too large for the public folder store, resulting in a failed attempt to copy it to a public folder destination or, alternatively, to a private folder destination which by necessity traverses a public pivot folder.
The default message size limit in Exchange 2003 server is 10MB. If you are synchronizing messages of this size, you should pay careful consideration to the effect of synchronizing messages this large to multiple destinations. It is advisable to take any measures possible to reduce or eliminate the need for messages of this size within Exchange.
Resolution
If it is not possible to eliminate these messages, or if it is not possible to prevent such messages from being created, you may want to enable private mailbox warnings for messages that are too large to be replicated. You can do this at the mailbox store level through ESM or at the individual mailbox level through Exchange Advanced tab of Active Directory Users and Computers.
Add2Exchange by itself cannot replicate these messages. You either need to make the messages conform to the limits within Exchange or change the Exchange limits to allow them into the public folder store. If Add2Exchange encounters such a message, it will skip the message and log an error each time the message is encountered during synchronization.
