preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

server 2012 with (2) R2 VMs - The VM I am trying to do a new install of 'a2e-standard.9.9.177.185' has exchange 2010 sp2 and the V2 rollup and besx installed on it.  Pretty simple issue, I disabled UAC with a regedit and hit preinstaller.exe and it brought up the app as it should.  Selecting both the OU and DB buttons create txt files but nothing is in them, a query responds with zero results.  help is also dead on the app.  Is this broken or have I not had enough coffee? What is my next move?  Thanks

Re: preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

Did you Reboot after the uac disable? If not, please do before proceeding.

Are you running the Preinstaller on a machine with Exchange Command Shell in an Exchange 2007 or 2010 environment?

if yes so far, not sure why, but there are two solutions:  Go get some more coffee

Then you can manually make your A2E Service account "zadd2exchange" in whatever unmanaged "service account" type OU you wish from within Exchange Management Console

Then rerun the Preinstaller again and make sure the name of the account is correct, then select the checkbox that account exists

Next, make sure the service account is part of the local administrators of the machine you are installing it on and any Exchange Server you are talking to or are replicating to including DR (usually all of them).

Then Log off and back on as the A2E Service account and run the CDO mapi install (if not on the same machine you ran the preinstaller) from the Preinstaller Dir, then go through the installation again.  If CDO asks to upgrade, do not do it.  Stop, uninstall the old and then install the new.

This should do it.

Re: preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

Hey, thanks for the fast response.  Yes, did a reboot after the UAC adjustment.yes, as stated, exch 2010 / sp2 w. v2 rollup and working command shell.

I am funny, it really bothers me when buttons on a simple app don't work.  I hear you on the OU but why should the DB query fail?  re the cdo you lost me, I already have a cdo installed from besx, do you need this specific verision or what exactly?  thanks

Re: preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

It's likely that you have an antivirus or HIPS program that is interfering with the preinstaller's ability to call other programs.

For example, the help button simply calls your default browser to go to our help web page.  There aren't too many things that can go wrong with that operation unless the application is being blocked in some manner.

Re: preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

Hi, I am using a FortiGate 60C on the front end, I don't see how that could impact this in the least and the help links the below which appears to be a dead end.  Thoughts?  Thanks

Re: preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

It appears our documentation has changed.  I'll inform the developers of the location that needs to be fixed.

In the meantime, here's where that link should point:

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: preinstaller > no OU and no DB when selected. Help is dead

Not sure where i want to go from here, not only did the pre-installer not work but all 3 EMS commands failed.  This was taken from the

http://guides.diditbetter.com/a2e-guide/index.html?exchange_2003_configuration.htm document.  I am not a happy camper.
